According to the Arkansas Insurance Department, suspected car crash ring mastermind Frederick Watson turned himself in to Little Rock Police. The operation that Watson was allegedly running defrauded insurance companies for hundreds of thousands of dollars over 12 years.
Watson and others in the ring are believed to have staged more than 40 accidents during their years of operation. Their targets were mostly unsuspecting drivers pulling out of driveways or going through intersections. They would then falsify reports saying that they fell asleep while driving.
Arkansas State Insurance Commissioner Julie Benafield Bowman said investigators from the department's criminal investigation division began looking into the case after an adjuster with an insurance company reported that she thought one of her clients had been intentionally crashed into.
