According to the Northern Texas District U.S. Attorney's Office, Dallas resident Barry Ward recently was indicted for filing a false claim with a U.S. agency, mail fraud, and wire fraud.
In September 2005, Ward fraudulently claimed that he was a Hurricane Katrina victim and applied to FEMA for individual financial assistance. He falsified these claims under the Disaster Housing program and the Individual Assistance programs. He also made additional fraudulent claims to FEMA for rental assistance.
According to the report, Ward stated his home and personal property in New Orleans had been damaged. The indictment alleges that Ward fraudulently obtained $17,655 in FEMA disaster relief funds.
