According to a release from the State of New Jersey Attorney General's office, Bruce Basile of Atlantic County recently was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of third-degree theft by deception.

Basile falsely claimed that he was thrown from his bicycle and lost four front teeth after riding over a loose piece of concrete on July 27, 2001. The indictment alleges that Basile did not lose his teeth in an accident on that date.

The release states that Basile filed a lawsuit against the Borough of Buena and the owner of the property where he claimed the accident occurred. The bogus claim resulted in a payout of $4,500 by the Borough of Buena and $10,000 by Ohio Casualty Insurance Company, who supplied Basile with homeowners' coverage.

Basile is facing five years in a state prison and a $15,000 fine in addition to civil insurance fraud fines.
