About 2.3 million couples get married in the United States each year, with the average bill for each of these celebrations coming out to around $33,000 – or about $284 per guest – in 2024.

To those who haven’t planned a wedding in the last decade or so, this number may sound inflated, so here is a breakdown of average wedding expenses from The Knot’s 2024 real weddings study:

  • Wedding dress: $2,100
  • Venue: $12,200
  • Photographer: $2,900
  • Caterer: $80 per head
  • Groom’s attire: $320
  • Cake: $540
  • Hair and Makeup: $290
  • DJ: $1,700
  • Event rentals: $2,000
  • Florist: $2,700

Needless to say, outside of the emotional importance of the day, weddings also come with a significant amount of financial investment, which is why many choose to protect themselves and their big day by purchasing wedding insurance.
