- Home insurance rates (50% of score): This was based on average rates for homes with dwelling coverage of $200,000, $350,000, $500,00 and $750,000.
- Complaints (20% of score): The team looked at complaints against the insurer that were upheld by state insurance departments.
- Extended and/or guaranteed replacement cost coverage (20% of score): Home insurers received extra points if they offered extra dwelling coverage, an important feature in the event of a large disaster.
- Banned dog lists (10% of score): Banned dog breed lists can cause homeowners to be ineligible for coverage.
