Housing trends in the U.S. supercharged by the pandemic have continued in the years since, with millennials fleeing cities in search of bucolic burgs that boast larger homes, safer communities and better schools. Look no further than recent research from StorageCafe® on the fastest-growing housing markets in the U.S. Because if you want to know where people are moving, ask an outfit that specializes in self storage. StorageCafe® studied 10-year housing and population changes in 4,100 cities, taking into account home appreciation, population shifts, work patterns and the economy to determine which municipalities in the U.S. have experienced the hottest housing growth. Among the findings: |

  • Five of the top ten places with the fastest-growing housing inventories over the past ten years were exurbs. Communities in the South showed the most significant growth, with Texas featuring seven suburbs among the top 20 fastest-growing housing markets and Florida boasting five.
  • Suburban growth has applied upward pressure on house prices. Over the past decade, home values surged by 78% in exurbs and 57% in the suburbs.
  • In the U.S, 48% of large-scale development is located in the suburbs.

The slideshow above illustrates the fastest-growing housing markets in the U.S. between 2012 and 2022, according to StorageCafe®. "Quality of life is a primary factor driving suburban expansion, with families seeking larger homes, safer communities and better schools — even if it means paying a premium in some locations," StorageCafe® said in a recent press release about its findings. "The rise of remote work has also increased demand for housing in suburban and rural areas, as people seek a better work-life balance away from congested urban centers." Related: |
