RISKWORLD 2024 service project offers attendees a chance to give back
A hygiene kit assembly station will be set up during RISKWORLD on May 6 and 7, and all attendees are invited to participate.
At this year’s RISKWORLD in San Diego, risk professionals will gather to assemble hygiene kits to support Sharia’s Closet – a San Diego nonprofit organization that provides clothing and other everyday essentials to locals in need. The project is sponsored by ESIS (a Chubb Company).
Sharia’s Closet was established in 2013, and has since supported 50,000 people with the vision to “empower people with clothes to promote self-esteem and self-identity” in the San Diego community.
“Sharia’s Closet’s Bags of Hope is a comprehensive approach to supporting individuals and families in need,” Shamine Linton, founder and CEO of Sharia’s Closet said in a release about the project. “By providing essential items such as personal hygiene products, RISKWORLD attendees will address not only our families’ immediate needs but also promote dignity and respect. It’s initiatives like these that have a profound impact on the lives of those they serve, fostering empowerment and hope within communities.”
An assembly station will be set up on the second floor of the San Diego Convention Center during RISKWORLD on May 6 and 7, and all RISKWORLD attendees are invited to participate. The project is being coordinated by HandsOn San Diego, another local nonprofit that aims to strengthen the community through volunteer action.
“We are proud to sponsor HandsOn San Diego at the 2024 RISKWORLD Event as a way to reinforce our dedication to community involvement,” Jim Shevlin, president, ESIS, a Chubb Company, said in a release. “Our commitment extends beyond business to making a tangible impact in the communities where RISKWORLD events are held and where our clients reside. This year, we’re hosting a Community Service Project table and encouraging attendees to stop by and join us in creating hygiene kits for those experiencing financial hardship or crisis. We will also be making a donation that will help support more than 100 local organizations across San Diego County with group volunteer events and projects.”
RIMS, the risk management society, selects a local charity in the RISKWORLD host city each year and develops activities for attendees to give back as a token of gratitude to the city. The first RIMS community service project was held in New Orleans in 2007 and supported local families in the area as they rebuilt their local infrastructure that was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
