Helping homeowners batten down their policies for hurricane season

Meg O’Toole Herman, agency owner with Goosehead Insurance, shares her advice for helping insureds prepare their homeowners' policies for a potentially active hurricane season.

At the beginning of April, Colorado State University’s tropical meteorology project team released their outlook for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season, and if their predictions come to fruition, this year could be one of the most active on record. They forecast 23 storms this year – 11 of which will become hurricanes, and five of which could reach Category 3 or higher.

For comparison, in 2023, the Atlantic hurricane season produced 20 storms, 7 hurricanes and three hurricanes that were Category 3 or higher.

With the potential for a dramatic hurricane season on the horizon, agents should take the time to review coverages with their customers in areas that are vulnerable to hurricane damage to ensure their coverage is as comprehensive as possible.

To discuss how agents can guide their insureds in this process, we’re joined in this episode of Insurance Speak by Meg O’Toole Herman, agency owner with Goosehead Insurance, who is based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
