Small, midsize and midsize luxury sport utility vehicles feature heavily in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2024 Top Safety Pick+ awards, with five vehicles from each class earning the highest rating. This was more than any other class of vehicle, as relatively few cars, pickups and minivans qualified for the top rating, according to the IIHS. Further, 12 midsize luxury SUVs were selected for the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation. "The high number of SUVs that earn awards probably reflects the dominance of those vehicles in the U.S. market," IIHS President David Harkey said in a release. "But it's disappointing that only four pickups and four midsize cars earn awards, considering the popularity of those classes." By brand, Hyundai Motor Group received the most Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick designations with 16 total. Toyota Motor Corp. had the second most vehicles recognized with 13, while Mazda earned the most Top Safety Pick+ awards with five as well as one Top Safety Pick recognition. The above slideshow reveals the midsize SUVs that received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation. The vehicles are listed in alphabetical order. Related: |
