The old adage, 'Everything that can go wrong, will,' is often apropos when it comes to international travel. Experienced globetrotters know that missing connections, losing luggage or getting a little lost are all par for the course when it comes to unfamiliar treks. But there are some travel worries that adventurists can cross off their lists by reading up on the safety concerns in their desired destinations. What constitutes a safe travel destination? While researchers once only took into account whether or not a location experiences regular violence, now they also look for places that are free from disease outbreaks and known to be welcoming to foreigners, Berkshire Hathaway reports. The insurance carrier recently mined its State of Travel Insurance research to determine the countries where travelers are most likely to "move about freely, stay disease-free, and be sheltered from severe weather events." The slideshow above illustrates the top 10 safest places to travel in the world in 2024, according to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. Travelers are not likely to sample spicy foods or suffer a tropical sunburn when visiting the 10 countries ranked by Berkshire Hathaway as the safest places to travel in 2024, but being able to explore without fear is its own reward.
