Bill Donnell, president and CEO of the workers’ comp rating and data collection organization National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI), will retire in February 2025.

During his tenure, Donnell led the workers’ comp organization into a more “forward-looking, innovative and thought-leading role within the industry,” according to a release.

“It’s been such a privilege to lead this organization and this amazing group of professionals,” Donnell said in a statement. “The work we’ve done together, in support of this noble profession of workers compensation, will live on to positively influence the lives and safety of workers across the country.”

Donnell has more than 30 years of industry experience, having held P&C insurance and reinsurance leadership roles in for global and U.S.-based companies. Prior to joining the NCCI in 2015, he was president of Swiss Re’s P&C reinsurance business.

An executive search committee has been formed to find the organization’s next president and CEO, according to Brandon Fick, NCCI board chair and chief underwriting officer for Liberty Mutual Global Risk Solutions North America. Donnell will continue to lead day-to-day operations until his retirement.

“The NCCI board thanks Bill for his leadership and service during his outstanding tenure as head of the organization,” Fick said in a release. “Under his watch, the organization continues to deliver unwaveringly on its promise to its stakeholders and bravely took on topics and challenges to help lead the industry into the decades ahead. But perhaps what is most impressive is the great humanity and heart he displays as a leader, genuinely caring a great deal for the people he leads.”
