Thanksgiving is the deadliest holiday for driving, According to driver's education site Zutobi, which reported that 2,448 roadway deaths have occurred during the holiday period in the past five years. The holiday with the second most roadway fatalities, Labor Day, saw 2,348 deaths during that same period. Looking at data from 2021, driving under the influence was the cause of 36% of roadway deaths during Thanksgiving weekend, while 30% were due to speeding, Zutobi reported. Nearly 80% of these accidents involved young drivers. Nearly 50 million Americans will hit the road this Thanksgiving weekend, according to AAA, which reported this is a slightly increase compared with 2022. AAA anticipates it will aid more than 360,000 drivers over the holiday weekend with most motorists seeking help for flat tires, dead batteries and lockouts. "Don't let car trouble be the reason you don't make it to Thanksgiving dinner," Adrienne Woodland, spokeswoman, for AAA — The Auto Club Group, said in a release. "Before setting out for your holiday road trip, ensure your tires, battery and brakes are all in proper working condition; and don't forget to pack an emergency kit for added peace of mind."
