The best of NU, Claims magazines is now at PropertyCasualty360.com
Meet the 2023 Agency of the Year Award winners, and say farewell to our magazines.
Thanks to the late-medieval poet Geoffrey Chaucer, humanity has drawn on the phrase ‘All good things must come to an end’ for nearly 1,000 years to sooth the remorse, anxiety and unease that accompany difficult transitions.
Insurance professionals have (only!) been reading National Underwriter magazine, or “NU,” for 127 years. Alas, Chaucer’s wise words are apropos for the final 2023 issue of NU Property & Casualty magazine, as well as Claims magazine, as this also is the last time these publications will appear in print.
But, as many literary greats have written, fear not, dear reader. Delivering groundbreaking, authoritative news and analysis that centers on the issues facing P&C insurance professionals remains my team’s top priority.
As we move into 2024, we will increase our focus on creating sophisticated, digestible content delivered to you in a more timely, digital-first way, and we will be increasingly focused on developing dynamic offerings that meet the everchanging needs of our subscribers.
I recognize that the end of a print publication, particularly one such as this with a long and illustrious history, warrants a moment of reflection. The magazine, along with its sister publication Claims, was the go-to source for P&C insurance-industry news for decades.
But now, we have to be real about the fact that recent years have seen our publications increasingly filled with articles about climate-driven catastrophes. When you consider that millions of trees continue to come down each year to make paper, and that a notable percentage of that paper ends up in landfills, moving our media operation completely online seems like the least we can do as humanity continues to seek solutions to global warming and its devastating impact.
It also pleases me to close out NU Property & Casualty magazine on a high note. First, we shine a spotlight on the singular success stories behind each of this year’s winners of the Agency of the Year Award. In an era when the risks and challenges facing insurance organizations are becoming ever more complex, it’s uplifting to read about three insurance businesses that found their niche and perfected their strategy and services to become industry trailblazers. You can hear more about that by at watching our Agency of the Year Winner’s Roundtable recorded on LinkedIn. Just visit the LinkedIn event page to watch a recording of our conversation.
More good news
Although the economy is shifting, and many individuals and businesses have struggled this year in the face of high inflation, the insurance industry remains a sector where ambitious professionals can build lasting and fulfilling careers.
The final issue of NU Property & Casualty includes a closer look at the industry’s employment outlook in the new year, with a breakdown of the types of positions job seekers should look for in order to start making a difference (and earning a good living) in the world of insurance.
As a newspaper-journalism refugee, change is nothing new to my career. I would even go so far as to say that the media peers of mine who have experienced the most success are those who have been flexible and adaptable in the face of a drastically evolving news landscape.
Yes, I will miss holding a hard copy of NU Property & Casualty magazine in my hands. But I am also excited by the opportunities and innovation available in digital publishing, and by the creative new media projects that my colleagues and I will get to pursue in the future with the aim of providing our audience with useful information. I hope you’ll be there, too, to see how we infuse PropertyCasualty360. com with the same excellence that has been a hallmark of NU Property & Casualty magazine for more than a century.
