Natural disasters and the business of adult beverages
Country Financial Agent Heidi Moore, an expert in wine, beer and cider, talks about that industry's risks and coverages.
It’s been three years since the Glass Fire tore through Northern California. What started in late September 2020 as a relatively small brush fire quickly grew and then split into two wildfires that scorched thousands of acres in Napa and Sonoma Counties. It took more than three weeks to fully contain the blaze. By that time, the Glass Fire had consumed close to 68,000 acres.
More than 1,500 commercial and residential structures were damaged or destroyed in the fire including the famous, 41-year-old Chateau Boswell Winery near St. Helena, and the Medieval–style Castello di Amorosa winery near Calistoga, which lost $5 million worth of wine. All of this in a region known for its dry, Mediterranean climate and soil conditions that are among the best in the world for vineyards.
The Glass Fire serves as a dramatic example of the kinds of threats that face vineyards, wineries, tasting rooms and others insureds in the business of beverages. Here today to talk about the unique risks and insurance opportunities linked to adult beverages is Heidi Moore, an agent with Country Financial who’s also an expert in wine, beer and cider. In addition to being an insurance professional, Heidi also hosts the Wine Crush Podcast, a show dedicated to bringing awareness to the beverage industry through expert interviews.
In this interview, Moore discusses common claims that arise from wine, beer and cider businesses. She also shares advice for both insureds and insurance professionals for navigating the adult beverage business and its applicable insurance coverages.
