More than a quarter of potential homebuyers in the U.S. want to relocate to a different part of the country, according to recently released research from the online real estate aggregator Redfin. Real estate watchers report that the thrust to relocate began during the pandemic and has continued to escalate ever since. Just over 23% of homebuyers wanted to relocate in 2022, up from 18% in 2019 and 2018, Redfin says. In 2023, that figure swelled to more than 25%. Today's homebuyers tend to be look for a combination of affordability and high quality-of-life. Warm weather also helps attract new residents, Redfin reports. That's the case in Myrtle Beach, a destination that's now drawing a high proportion of retirees. "I've also seen quite a few remote workers move in, drawn by our reasonably priced housing and year-round vacation lifestyle," Myrtle Beach Realtor Monica Roman said in a Redfin press release. The slideshow above illustrates this year's hottest real estate markets for people looking to relocate, according to Redfin. See also: |
