With an aging workforce looking toward retirement, there has been a lot of focus recently on how to draw members of Gen Z toward professions in insurance. Once that hurdle has been cleared and their career choice has been made, however, it can be hard for these up-and-comers to know where to start with their education and training in order to reach their professional goals. For most of these young people, their journey into insurance begins with college, but not all insurance and risk management programs in the United States are created equal. According to SCI Journal, new scholars who are weighing their options for an insurance degree program should consider the following:
  • Whether the school is accredited by a recognized agency, like the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) or the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
  • The school's reputation within the industry
  • Faculty expertise and specialization
  • Opportunities for hands-on learning and research
  • Networking opportunities and alumni networks
  • Tuition costs and financial aid availability
  • Available resources like career services and internship programs
  • Job placement rates
