School is serious business, Chubb reminded readers in a recent health and safety article. Beyond the well-publicized risks associated with learning facilities, the carrier took a global look at the many potential loss events facing educational institutions such as accidents, crime or (specifically) cybercrime. Among the details to consider when evaluating an institution's potential threats are exactly what type of school is in question: Preschools, primary schools, middle schools, high schools, community colleges, universities and trade schools all have shared and distinct risk considerations. The slideshow above illustrates 10 of the education-related risks that Chubb urges insurance professionals and their clients to consider when polishing safety and mitigation plans for the new school year and beyond. In addition to risks that are specific to schools and their occupants, the insurer points out that educational institutions also must manage the same risks as any other business: Property damage concerns, cyber threats, equipment failure and litigation protection are chief among those common business risks.
