Imagine planning an outdoor wedding in a bucolic open field, only to discover that the bride's walk down a long, grassy aisle is disturbed by thousands of crickets, several of which become embedded in her dress before she can reach her betrothed at the alter. In another outdoor scene, wildlife descended on the wedding cake before the couple even got to say, "I do." And then there are the nuptials in which members of the wedding party miss transportation or worse: Get into an auto accident immediately before the big event. All of these mishaps can and have happened to transform a couple's dream day into a challenging, trying and even nightmarish memory. Travelers recently surveyed engaged couples about their worst wedding fears. Nearly 30% of respondents said that bad weather and poor family relations topped their wedding-day worries. "A couple's wedding is supposed to be one of the best days of their lives, but sometimes things go wrong," Todd Shasha, assistant vice president of Personal Insurance at Travelers, said in a press release about the carrier's 2022 wedding claims survey. Fortunately, many event snafus are covered by wedding insurance. Cancellations due to site problems, poor weather, vendor no-shows, illness, injury or military deployment are generally covered by such policies. The slideshow above illustrates the most common wedding claims in 2022 along with the percentage of survey respondents who filed similar claims, according to Travelers. "Being prepared and knowing the most common wedding insurance claims can help prevent costly disruptions from unforeseen events," Shasha said. "While wedding insurance can't prevent family dynamics, it can provide financial protection from other concerns, like severe weather events or attire mishaps. Knowing that you have the right coverage in place can provide peace of mind if you are faced with unexpected wedding glitches." See also: |
