More than 40% of U.S. households with kids are currently on a road trip or are soon to take off on one as part of the July 4th holiday, according to a survey from TransUnion, which found that 30% of households without kids are also planning Independence Day road trips. Slightly more than 45% of households planned one to two trips for spring and summer, with most trips running four to seven days, TransUnion reported. Road trips are the top travel plan for 43% of consumers, according to TransUnion, which reported that 46% of Americans are planning to travel more this summer than they did in 2022. "After several years of feeling pent up, Americans are hungry for travel and making it a priority despite a challenging economic environment," Cecilia Seiden, vice president of TransUnion's travel and hospitality business, said in a release. The above slideshow offers a few tips for staying safe during summer road trips and covers the essential items to pack in a vehicle's emergency kit, according to Mercury Insurance. "Road trips are a popular summer tradition for many, but it's important to make sure your vehicle is ready for a safe and enjoyable journey," Kevin Quinn, vice president of auto claims at Mercury Insurance, said in a release.
