Seven out of 10 Americans suffer from negative news fatigue, according to The Washington Post. It follows that a majority of adults report that the news can stress them out.

“While I don’t recommend burying our heads in the sand and ignoring what is going on around us,” says Dr. Tal ben-Shahar, author of “Happier” and co-founder of the Happiness Studies Academy, “we should certainly limit our consumption of bad news and expose ourselves to uplifting content.”

PropertyCasualty360.com wants to help insurance professionals balance their business-news diet. Beginning Fri., June 16, 2023, we will showcase some of the good works and deeds taking place around the P&C insurance space with our new weekly column titled “Making a Difference.”

As much as our jobs as insurance journalists demand that we publish information about industry challenges, major risks, destructive loss events and the like, we also recognize that insurance organizations are part of the fabric of communities and society. As such, insurers, brokerages, agencies and risk-management firms are involved in an array of philanthropic work including nonprofit fundraisers, volunteerism, public improvements and much more. We want to make sure this good news receives the platform it deserves.

PropertyCasualty360.com’s new “good news” column will publish weekly on Fridays. Readers are invited to share any items for the weekly roundup by sending email to any of the editors on our team, which currently includes myself along with:

“Making a Difference” will be part of our collection of weekly columns covering personnel moves, insutech insights and general insurance-industry news snippets. We look forward to highlighting your good news, and to further illustrating the complex quilt that is the insurance business.
