The ALM PropertyCasualty360 Complex Claims & Litigation Forum kicked off in Las Vegas on Mon., Feb. 27. The event runs through March 1 and serves as a chance for claims and legal professionals to gather and exchange ideas, discuss trends and share expertise around handling complex claims.

Monday’s opening keynote address was delivered by Hank Watkins, regional director and president, Americas for Lloyd’s. Williams discussed emerging risks and the ways in which the “Four Cs” — conflict, climate, catastrophes and cyber — have influenced the claims landscape.

The keynote was followed by a panel discussion on the state of the insurance industry featuring Neil Harrison, global chief claims officer at Aon plc; Steve Donnelly, chief claims office with Amerisure Insurance Company; and Kelly Doherty-Schaffner, executive vice president and head of Allied World Insurance Company’s North American Claims Group.

Other sessions held during the first day of the forum included discussions on mediation and creative settlements to avoid litigation, mitigating workplace violence, best practices for investigating claims and preserving evidence, managing risks and costs in claims with AI, and addressing the talent gap in the insurance industry.

Monday’s evening keynote was given by Richard Wickliffe, complex claims manager with Frontline, who shared some of the more sensational complex claims he has encountered over his career — including a battle over an “exploding” corpse claim that went all the way to the Florida Supreme Court.

Tuesday’s events will begin with a keynote address featuring Tracy Thompson, deputy executive director of the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.
