InsurTech NY opens submissions for Global Startup Competition

Previous winners have secured more than $45 million in funding following the competition, according to InsurTech NY.

Applications are now being accepted for InsurTech NY’s annual Global Startup Competition, which has a prize pool of $200,000. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 10, 2023, and applicants must have ended 2022 with less than $250,000 in revenue to be eligible.

“Every insurtech needs exposure and investment to grow,” David Gritz, managing director of InsurTech NY, said in a release. “Past competition winners have attracted more than $45 million in funding post-competition and had exposure to hundreds of insurance carriers and brokers.”

The top 10 companies, to be announced in early March, will present to a panel of carriers, brokers, venture capitalists and angel investors at the InsurTech Spring Conference, taking place March 29-30 in New York City.

The presenting insurtechs will be ranked based on their investment and market potential. Judges will include representatives from Avanta Ventures, Candid Insurance Investors, Founders Shield, Gallagher, Lockton, Park City Angels, QBE Ventures, Starr Insurance, TIAA and Tokio Marine, according to InsurTech NY.

In 2022, finalists presented in front of an audience of more than 600 people. The winning company was OneClick, LLC, developers of an app for roofing contractors and adjusters that automates building code details for a structure based on its location.

“The Global InsurTech Competition allowed us to raise awareness about the challenges in the market for roofing repairs post claim and our solution for the industry,” Garrett Kurtt, CEO of OneClick, said in a release.
