Insurance business leaders, nonprofit dignitaries and other stakeholders came together to celebrate the insurance industry's philanthropic efforts, while raising nearly $1.3 million for regional nonprofits, at the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation's 16th Annual Northeast Benefit Event, which was held this year at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. "The insurance industry has the ability to positively affect our communities and this year's benefit event demonstrated and celebrated what we can do when we work together," Elizabeth Myatt, vice president, chief program officer and executive director of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) Northeast Division, said in a release. "As we've navigated the pandemic, severe weather events and more, our region has seen a clear need for resources and funds dedicated to a number of causes, including education and the environment, and through the incredible generosity of our industry, we are proud to say we are providing significant support to those in need." On hand to celebrate the industry's charitable initiatives and recognize the "insurance all-stars" giving back to the community was Pete Alonso, first baseman for the New York Mets, the IICF reported. Alonso, who spoke at the gala, is also the founder of The Alonso Foundation, which supports youth, veterans and animal welfare through advocacy, grant-making and programming. |
Marsh receives Double I award
The night also saw the IICF recognize Marsh and its employees with the Double I award, which recognizes "influence in the industry and impact in the community," the foundation reported. Lucy Clarke, president of Marsh Specialty and Marsh Global Placement, accepted the award on the company's behalf. Commenting on the award presentation and gala, Chair of the IICF Northeast Division Board of Directors Jim Romanelli, senior vice president, New York City branch manager, CNA, said in a release: "We're grateful to be able to convene together again as an industry at what has become an annual insurance industry tradition in New York, and we're proud to highlight the inspiring work of leaders in our community like Marsh." Since 2007, the IICF's Northeast Division has given more than $11 million in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Related: |
