Closing out 2022 on a high note

Here's a look inside the November/December issue of NU Property & Casualty magazine.

Some people consider these days immediately following Halloween to be the unofficial start of the winter holiday season. Retailers, of course, do their part to further this notion as days before trick or treating begins, they begin to transition their orange and black seasonal sections to red and green.

To me, the best thing about the winter holidays to come won’t be the parties or the gifts or even the festive food and drink. These are all lovely, but my favorite thing about the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day is the chance to rest, reflect, recharge and renew.

And so it brings me great pleasure to share the final 2022 issue of NU Property & Casualty magazine with the feeling that my colleagues and I plan to end this year on a high note.

From the shaky economy to the caustic political scene, there’s no shortage of reasons to be dour. But that’s not what we focused on in the November/December issue of NU Property & Casualty. Instead, the issue honors some of the best in insurance by highlighting this year’s winners of the annual NU Agency of the Year Award. All three recipients find ways to pay homage to the industry’s mighty responsibility to make insureds whole after a loss while also making their businesses future-ready with modern tools and strategies. In addition to reading their profiles, you can glean insurance-business success tips from the leaders of our winning agencies during a complimentary webcast on Nov. 15, 2022 titled, “Planning for a Successful 2023: Agency of the Year Award Winners Roundtable.”

The November/December issue of NU Property & Casualty also takes a deep dive into the state of the construction insurance and builders risk marketplace. Business in that sector has changed during 2022, which makes this a great time for insurance professionals to revisit their construction-industry clients to make sure all of their exposures are sufficiently covered.

The magazine’s columns section includes thought leadership around maximizing carrier partnerships, getting ahead of climate change, and best practices for collecting, managing and analyzing data to the benefit of policyholders and insurers alike. And you can read about one of the progressive new media tools we use to help keep our audience informed: Twitter chats. In this case, my team gathered a panel of subject-matter experts to chat online about the role insurance can play in mitigating and managing violence risks.

Another of this year’s high notes for my colleagues and I was certainly the chance to meet many of you in person at such industry events as the ACE Leadership Forum & Expo, Riskworld, the WSIA Annual Marketplace, the Annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference and ITC Vegas.

We have also taken pride in honoring the industry’s accomplishments through professional recognition programs such as NU PC360 Luminaries and the Excellence in Workers’ Comp Risk Management Award.

Sure, managing awards programs and industry events in addition to our editorial commitments can be tough. But these projects serve as a professional adrenaline shot and a steadfast reminder of how many hard-working, empathetic, decent people populate the insurance world.
