According to a survey released by Lending Tree in January, nearly 40% of Americans are considering a move in 2022. Of course, people's reasons for moving vary — from those relocating for employment, to those moving closer to family, to those just looking for a change — but no matter the reasoning for a big move, there are several things everyone should consider when choosing their new hometown, including: |
- Are there jobs available in your field there? Are there also professional opportunities for your spouse and any other working members of the household?
- How does the cost of living stack up against typical wages in the area? Will you realistically be able to afford to purchase a home, or will you have to rent?
- For those with children: How do the local schools stack up? Would you like your children to go to public or private school, and are there options to your liking in your potential new district?
- How's the weather? In addition to considering how the wider effects of climate change are affecting a city, you should also consider whether the area's average weather is something you can handle.
- Will you require public transportation? If so, is there an effective, convenient public transit system in that city?
When assembling their list of the top places to live, U.S. News & World Report considers several of these factors and more, including unemployment rates, average salaries, blended median annual household income, crime rates and quality and affordability of health care. In the slideshow above, we'll see their top-ten best places to live in the U.S. for 2022- 2023 — as well as these cities' other U.S. News & World Report rankings.
