Rewriting the role of insurance for the future
Hippo Insurance's Rick McCathron discusses how the company is harnessing data and technology to help owners better protect their homes in this Insurance Speak podcast.
Technology is changing the insurance landscape in many exciting new ways. From pricing and purchasing policies to filing insurance claims, technology is streamlining the entire insurance process and allowing insurers to develop new products. One of the companies at the forefront of this transformation is Hippo Insurance, a California-based property insurance company that is making it easier for customers to protect their homes while providing products that ease many of the burdens associated with homeownership.
In the latest Insurance Speak podcast, Rick McCathron, president of Hippo Insurance, talks about their business model and how the company is harnessing real-time data, smart home technology and a growing suite of home services to create an integrated home protection platform.
“We have entered into a period of rapid and unprecedented change,” shares McCathron. “Insurtech has transformed the industry and we will continue to see new players who will help accelerate the rate of change.”
McCathron explains that Hippo’s use of insurtech helps the consumer have a better experience, and improved customer satisfaction as well as the ultimate loss experience for the insurer. By monitoring weather-related feeds, Hippo can reach out proactively to customers following events like hail storms and provide details as specific as the size of the hailstones that hit their roofs.
At Hippo, the emphasis is on helping customers protect the joy of homeownership, stresses McCathron. “We need to remember that they are customers and not just policyholders or insureds.”
