There are things you tend to only learn by actually speaking with an insurance professional as opposed to strictly reading industry reports, case studies and white papers.

For instance, while countless insurance write-ups analyze the dangers of “climate change,” it took an actual conversation with one insurance-industry leader to uncover the fact that many people working in this business consider the phrase “climate change” to be politically-charged.

Of course, insurance pros understand the growing impact of increasingly frequent and severe weather-related catastrophes; but not all of them agree on the cause. And some of them are downright turned off by the phrase “climate change.”

This is the kind of first-person insights that surface in the annual agent survey conducted by the team at PropertyCasualty360 and NU Property & Casualty magazine in conjunction with the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA). We are collecting responses through Dec. 3, 2021.

While previous versions of the survey explored such issues as the impact of COVID-19 and the push to digitalize operations, this installment will take a closer look at how insurance agents are preparing for the future by exploring recruitment and staffing challenges, professional training and diversity initiatives.
