October is not only the time for Halloween festivities — it's also National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Even more so than ghosts and ghouls, it's cyber threats that make many of us take the words of Geena Davis in The Fly to heart: "Be afraid. Be very afraid."
That fear is not unsubstantiated: According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, the number of data-compromise victims in the third quarter of this year exceeded the total number of victims from the past two quarters combined — even though the overall number of data breach incidents declined.
