Despite the challenges of the past pandemic year, business boomed for many firms across the U.S., including the 78 insurance companies listed on this year's Inc. 5000. The annual ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies provides a snapshot of the most successful small-to-midsize companies operating in the U.S. today by measuring companies' growth from 2017 to 2020. The 2021 Inc. 5000 collectively achieved a three-year median growth rate of 167% and added more than 2.56 million jobs in the past three years. The insurance companies ranked in 2021, which includes property & casualty, health, life and employee benefits businesses, generated $4.2 billion in revenue and created 8,583 jobs during the study period. "Building one of the fastest-growing companies in America in any year is a remarkable achievement. Building one in the crisis we've lived through is amazing. This kind of accomplishment comes with hard work, smart pivots, great leadership, and the help of a whole lot of people," said Inc. Editor-in-Chief Scott Omelianuk in a statement. To earn a spot on the Inc. 5000, companies must have generated revenue by March 31, 2017, and generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2017 and $2 million in revenue in 2020. Companies must also be privately held, for-profit, independent and U.S.-based.
