Join us for a Twitter chat on helping clients navigate flood insurance
If your customers are feeling overwhelmed by flood insurance information, school will be in session on August 24.
According to a 2019 Verisk study, less than 5% of U.S. homes have any flood insurance, even as nearly 50% of U.S. homes are at moderate to extreme risk of flooding. The most recent Neptune Consumer Survey of Flood Awareness paints a bleaker picture: Sixty percent of respondents believed their homes were at “low to no risk” of flooding, while one in three respondents believes their home is “not in a flood zone” and 33% of homeowners don’t even know what flood zone they are in.
“The industry must increase its focus on educating consumers, real estate agents, lenders, and anyone involved in residential properties,” says Jim Albert, chairman and co-founder of Neptune Flood in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In that spirit, school will be in session on August 24 with PropertyCasualty360′s Twitter chat, “Back To School: Educating Your Clients on Flood Insurance.”
Panelists for our chat include Michel Leonard, chief economist for Triple-I; Amanda Bryant, director of operations at National Flood Insurance LLC; Don Griffin, department vice president of policy, research & international at APCIA; and Brian Bowerman, Westfield Services leader at Westfield Insurance. They’ll be joining Christine Barlow, managing editor of PropertyCasualty360 sister site FC&S Expert Coverage Interpretation, to answer a series of questions from our @PC_360 Twitter account as well as questions from readers that are sent in as the conversation unfolds.
If your clients are feeling swamped with flood insurance information, please join us on Twitter on August 24 at 11 AM EST! Follow the hashtag #BackToFloodSchool and add it to your tweets when you take part in the conversation.
