Cyberattacks have surged in 2021 and are poised to surpass 2020's record number of cybercrime incidents. The U.S. alone has seen several high-profile attacks within the first half of this year, including a breach at CNA Insurance and the attack against the Colonial Pipeline that resulted in the shut down of the nation's largest fuel pipeline. Most recently, an estimated 800 to 1,500 businesses worldwide were affected by a ransomware attack on Friday, June 2, when Russian hackers infiltrated the Miami-based software maker Kaseya that provides technology services to tens of thousands of organizations. The incident even prompted President Joe Biden to state that he plans to confront President Vladimir Putin about the recent ransomware attacked tied to Russian cyber gangs. In a statement to The New York Times, CEO of cybersecurity firm Huntress Labs Kye Hanslovan said the June 2 attack is "the worst ransomware incident to date, but if we don't take action, the worst is yet to come."
