The buzz around InsurTech has only intensified, with more focus on digitization and transformation in the industry. In the best-selling book, "The Future of Insurance: From Disruption to Evolution, Volume I. The Incumbents," I shared how incumbent insurance carriers are breaking through many of the roadblocks we face to keep moving ahead. But they also face pressure from the disruptive threat of InsurTech startups, specifically startup carriers that come to market free of many of the constraints of legacy players. In my new book, "The Future of Insurance: From Disruption to Evolution, Volume II. The Startups," I share case studies of eight startup carriers and MGAs — Neptune Flood, Thimble, Clover Health, Kin, Beam Dental, Clearcover, Branch and Next — to understand what pressures startups face, and, more importantly, what lessons their journeys provide to the entire industry on how we can move ahead. From my first-hand research and interviews with these companies, I've pulled together eight takeaways that can benefit anyone in the industry, whether startup, incumbent, investor, service provider or something else entirely. Read these eight lessons from insurance startups in the slideshow above.
