CPCU Society awarded the George M. Gottheimer-Donald S. Malecki Memorial Award for 2020 to Cynthia A. Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed, AIC. The award is presented to a CPCU Society member who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of insurance, risk management consulting or education, insurance litigation or service as an expert witness as well as involvement in and support of the CPCU Society and the CPCU designation.
Branch Insurance has launched operations in Indiana, marking the company’s sixth statewide expansion since its founding in August 2019. Indiana clients can take advantage of Branch’s community programs, including Community Drive and Community Pledge, which harness community power to make insurance more affordable for everyone.

Private Risk Management Association (PRMA), a nonprofit educational organization for risk management professionals in the insurance industry, is proud to announce the formation of its newest chapter in Philadelphia. PRMA chapters are an extension of the larger 3000-member national association that aims to elevate risk managers’ knowledge to improve the level of advice they provide their high net worth clients.
Spencer Educational Foundation will hold its 2nd Annual Spencer Day on Monday, February 22, 2021. This year, Spencer Day will celebrate the risk management and insurance industry’s diverse future, focusing on Spencer Scholars and alumni. Spencer Day is an opportunity for industry professionals to recognize Spencer Scholars and alumni and for employers to emphasize the value they place on hiring and supporting Spencer Scholars and the diverse talent pool represented. It is also a chance for Spencer Scholars to identify themselves and feature their educational and career accolades. Spencer encourages individuals, companies, and organizations to show their support on their social media channels using #SpencerScholars.
Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company, a mutual insurer based in Canada, and Guidewire Software, Inc. announced that Wawanesa has chosen the latter’s cloud to power its growing digital operations, including its core underwriting, claims, and billing management.
Nationwide and Walmart are joining forces to help families with pets save time and money when filling their pet prescription medications at any of Walmart’s 4,700 pharmacies across the country. Through this partnership, Nationwide pet insurance members will have access to Walmart’s most commonly prescribed pet-specific medications for chronic disease and flea, tick and heartworm prevention.
Big “I” presented Greg Murphy, executive chairman of the board of directors for Selective Insurance Group, Inc., with the Jeff Yates Lifetime Achievement Award at the Big “I” virtual Board of Directors meeting on Jan. 29. Murphy joined Selective in 1980 in the finance department, becoming senior vice president of finance in 1994 and chief financial officer in 1995. In 1997, he was named president and chief operating officer, and two years later, he became president and CEO. He assumed the role of chairman in 2000. In 2013, he transitioned to the chairman of the board and CEO, and in February 2020, was appointed executive chairman of the board of directors. On February 2, 2021, Murphy will become the non-executive chairperson of the board.
Omaha National, a workers’ compensation insurance provider that uses advanced technology to serve small and midsize employers, has surpassed $100 million of in-force premium three years and three months after its first policy inception in late 2017. Omaha National offers coverage in 12 states as it continues to expand in the U.S.
Neptune Flood, the first AI-driven flood insurance company to provide fast, easy and better flood insurance, announced the expansion of its residential products to the remaining five additional states, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Wyoming, and Washington, DC, completing the company’s nationwide rollout of all residential, commercial and RCBAP flood insurance products.
