An analysis from ValuePenguin of Complaint Index data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) found that residents from state to state have varying experiences with their home and auto insurers. Consider that some states saw an overwhelming majority of claims-related consumer complaints in 2019 than others. In Vermont, 100% of the consumer complaints filed against home and auto insurers involved claims, followed by Missouri (99%), West Virginia (94%), Montana (91%), and Arizona (86%) to round-up the top five states with the most claims-related issues last year.
The NAIC data also revealed that California faced the most insurance complaints out of any state last year. "Overall, the states with the most complaints tend to be populous and experience a lot of natural disasters, such as California (which experiences wildfires) and Florida (frequently gets hurricanes)," writes Matt Timmons, technical writer at ValuePenguin.
