Sedgwick announces new promotions in its active 2020 succession plan
2020 has been an active year for Sedgwick's leadership teams. Three promotions are the latest in a series of recent appointments.
In the last week, Sedgwick has announced the promotion of three employees to its executive teams and C-suite.
In its first announcement on Oct. 8, Sedgwick appointed Andrea Buhl, former managing director of clinical programs, to the role of president of managed care.
In her new role, Sedgwick says Buhl will continue to work with leading employers to develop state-of-the-art workers’ care and cost containment programs. Her background as a board-certified nurse practitioner and in-depth experience building and leading managed care programs gives her a unique perspective that has been influential in improving the health care process for employers, providers and consumers.
In a second announcement, Sedgwick named John Stanzi as president of casualty operations for the Americas. Stanzi succeeds Jim Ryan, who was named COO of the Americas earlier this month. Most recently, Stanzi served as managing director of casualty operations with Sedgwick. In his new role, Ryan says Stanzi will focus on “leading and supporting all colleagues” across Sedgwick’s casualty lines operations “to further enhance the expertise and results” for clients and the employees and consumers they serve.
Lastly and most recently, on Oct. 12, Sedgwick announced Scott Rogers, former group president of client services, had been promoted to chief client officer. In his 23-years with Sedgwick, Rogers also previously oversaw the company’s industry practices.
Bob Peterson, who was named president of Sedgwick in August, said Rogers will continue to work with employers through the Sedgwick client services and practice leaders who oversee the delivery of the company’s solutions. He will also manage a team of global business development leaders in property, casualty, workforce absence and specialty areas — such as managed care, affinity, public entity and pooling — a role held by Peterson prior to his promotion earlier this year.
High volume of promotions spotlight Sedgwick’s planned succession plan
2020 has been an active year for Sedgwick’s leadership teams.
These three promotions are the latest in a series of recent appointments by Sedgwick. On Sept. 30, Sedgwick announced it had appointed Jim Ryan as its new COO for the Americas.
In August, Sedgwick named a new CEO and president. The company announced Mike Arbour had been appointed as Sedgwick’s new CEO and board member, becoming just the third chief executive in the company’s more than 50-year history. Dave North, who led the company as president and CEO for more than 25 years, became an executive chairman. Sedgwick also announced Bob Peterson would assume the role of president after serving as Sedgwick’s group president of sales and marketing.
In comments made to PropertyCasualty360.com on Sedgwick’s succession plans and recent appointments, Ericka DeBruce, VP of colleague experience and corporate citizenship, Sedgwick Colleague Resources, referred to the company’s diversity initiatives.
“Sedgwick supports and promotes diversity with women and minorities among its leadership. We are committed to being more diverse by embedding inclusive behaviors into our attraction, selection, development, and retention practices,” DeBruce said.
“Sedgwick’s policy requires positive action be taken to ensure equality of opportunity in all facets of employment. Sedgwick ensures that our talent management team is well-versed in ways to avoid unconscious bias and ensure that job roles are not inflated to keep women or minorities out.”
