There has been no shortage of stressors and emerging risks in 2020. In a mid-year update to its 2020 Political Risk Map, Marsh takes a pulse on political risk around the world, identifying the top threats in each region for the rest of 2020 and into the new year. In reviewing the top threats globally in 2020, one main theme persists across continents: Trade tensions threaten political stability. According to Marsh, businesses in all markets, traditional or new, have worked in a difficult and volatile political risk landscape in 2020, and these threats are not going away soon. Issues related to global trade will continue through the rest of the year into 2021, Marsh says, warning of persistent political and economic uncertainty for businesses. Drawing on data from Fitch Solutions, Marsh's Political Risk Map 2020 explores the changing risk environment, highlighting the implications for firms operating globally. The Mid-Year Update provides risk ratings for 197 countries across nine perils covering the security, trading, and investment environment from January to July 2020 with data drawn from World Risk Review. Much has changed since the first 2020 risk outlooks in December. The global pandemic and its impact on the world economy have transformed many countries' political risk landscape, individually prioritizing new risks and repositioning perceived risk scores, negatively or positively. The slideshow above examines the greatest political risks in eight regions impacting the global risk landscape in 2020 and beyond. Related: |
