Insurance Speak: A conversation with Sedgwick's new president
Bob Peterson addresses the challenges and opportunities available in a rapidly changing insurance environment.
Managing a company of any size is fraught with challenges these days, but handling a global enterprise like Sedgwick offers both risks and opportunities. Bob Peterson, who has been with the company for more than two decades, was promoted to president of the company in August. He recently sat down to chat with us on PropertyCasualty360.com’s Insurance Speak podcast to provide an overview of Sedgwick’s many business areas, discuss how it has been affected by the coronavirus, where it’s focusing for the future, and to highlight the opportunities he sees for the company and the industry.
Peterson says that the company’s guiding principle is that “caring counts” and this applies to both their colleagues and customers. “If I take care of our colleagues, they in turn will take great care of our clients,” shares Peterson of Sedgwick’s version of ‘paying it forward.’ Building a culture of care starts at the top and affects the company’s operations at every level.
Growth continues to be a focus, and the company has made a number of acquisitions over the last few years. This has enabled Sedgwick to thrive. Peterson explains that the acquisitions enabled the company to broaden its expertise in very specific areas and have created some incredible opportunities as well.
As far as the impact of the coronavirus, Peterson says that the safety of their colleagues and clients continues to be a priority as the company finds ways to support them. Sedgwick developed several new programs for clients including a crisis care line to help enhance communication with their clients. He stresses that despite the changes necessitated by COVID-19, “we’ve never lost our focus on the people.”
