Editor’s Note: Water can enter a dwelling in a variety of ways. Insurance policies exclude many causes, but some covered losses are specific to where the water came from and how. This week’s question relates to interior property damage caused by rainwater.

Question: Our insured has a Form 3 (Special Form) under a homeowner/farm owner insurance policy. An individual left a window open at the property, resulting in three inches of rainwater entering the premise and causing water damage to the interior walls and floor.
