The NAAIA J. L. Tillman Scholarship is now accepting applications
Five scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each will be awarded to selected applicants.
COVID-19 has introduced tremendous uncertainty in all aspects of life, from events to work and anything else imaginable. Even as some parts of the United States begin to rebound and slowly phase back to “normal,” while others see a surge in cases, questions still linger for many areas.
In particular, the issue of whether schools and universities can and should reopen is a major concern for students, parents and states across the board. As the school year approaches, many students considering undergraduate and graduate school are unsure of their plans for the fall. Adding to this uncertainty is whether the financial costs are worth an untraditional college experience.
Scholarship opportunities are often the differentiator for students considering a certain college or a field of study — more so than ever this year. For students curious about the insurance industry, there’s good news: The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) J. L. Tillman Scholarship is accepting applicants.
Five scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each will be awarded to selected applicants. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an African American U.S. citizen pursuing a degree in insurance, risk management, business, actuarial science, finance, IT, or marketing and communications.
- Must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.
- Must be a graduating high school senior who is college-bound, or a current college, Jr. college or community college student.
- Must show school acceptance letter and acceptable proof that commitment has been made to attend a specific school.
- Must complete the Annual Scholarship Program Entry form before the deadline date. All entries must be received on or prior to the deadline of Aug. 25, 2020.
The entry form requires applicants to submit an essay, submit three letters of reference, a copy of their most recent high school or college transcript, provide documentation confirming their ACT or SAT scores as well as providing college acceptance letters prior to receiving the award if chosen.
Scholarship winners will be announced by Sept. 25, 2020.
The NAAIA J. L. Tillman Scholarship was created to promote higher educational opportunities for African-American students interested in careers within the insurance industry. A complete set of requirements and instructions can be found on NAAIA’s website.
