In the face of worsening wildfire threats in the U.S., homeowners that fall victim to a fire face a potentially long road in recovering and rebuilding — with or without proper insurance coverage. After a wildfire loss, homeowners eager to rebuild or recover their homes will be tasked to manage through a detailed claims process, working closely with their insurer from the time the claim is made through the last day of construction. Tackling insurance concerns for at-risk homeowners, a recent webinar from the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) and the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) offered guidance on how to prepare financially for wildfires, choosing insurance coverages, and managing premium concerns from the shopping stage to the end of the claims process. Presenters Nicole Mahrt-Ganley of the APCIA and Janet Ruiz of I.I.I. offered guidance on how to read a homeowners insurance policy, understand policy deductibles, and the factors to consider when determining how much insurance coverage to purchase to account for homeowners' particular wildfire risk. In the slideshow above, discover tips for homeowners in wildfire-prone areas on how to navigate the insurance claims process after a wildfire. See also: |
