Four 2020 lessons for workers' comp risk managers
Our annual Excellence in Workers' Compensation Risk Management Award is more poignant than ever. Apply now!
The challenges and lessons from 2020 continue to unfold for every professional, the least of whom work in the world’s schools.
Tawana Kennedy, workers’ compensation manager for the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD), said this week that doing business as usual in the era of the novel coronavirus means engaging in ongoing education about new risks and finding fresh ways to communicate and pass along key information about those risks.
Virtual meetings and more electronic processes are a must, says Kennedy, who represented her district in 2018 when its workers’ compensation program was selected as one of three winners of NU Property & Casualty’s annual Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Risk Management Award. Nominations for the 2020 awards are being accepted through Tues., June 30, 2020.
What have been Kennedy’s key takeaways from 2020 so far? “Be prepared, and accept the unexpected,” she said via email. “Be flexible and adaptable. Provide support, empathy and respond quickly to the claimant and family’s needs.”
