Speed demons, beware. In a new report from QuoteWizard, data collectors ranked the worst states for speedy drivers. To compose their rankings, researchers analyzed speed limit data from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and State Highway Safety Offices to see which states had the highest and lowest speed limits. Then, researchers paired speed limit data with recorded traffic ticket data to compare the rate in which speeding tickets are issued in states with high and low-speed limits. Overall, QuoteWizard's ranking is a differential comparison of the speed limit and speeding ticket rankings, with the states that rank highest having the most contrast. In short: Drivers in the top-ranked states are both more likely to speed, due to slower limits, and more likely to receive a traffic infraction for the action. Discover the 10 worst states for speedy drivers in the slideshow above, along with their average speed limit, speed limit rank, and speeding ticket rank. See also: |
