Florida insurance commissioner voted president-elect of NAIC

Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier was voted president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) on Dec. 10, effective Jan. 1, 2020.

“I am honored to have been chosen as president-elect of the NAIC. This year, we have made significant progress on many key issues. As president-elect, I will continue to the open dialogue to strengthen the consumer-focused framework that guides our mission as state insurance regulators,” Altmaier said in a statement.

In 2019, Altmaier served as vice president of the NAIC. He also chaired the NAIC’s Financial Condition Committee, Group Capital Calculation Working Group and the Capital Adequacy Task Force, which he will continue to do as president-elect.

David Altmaier was appointed as the Florida insurance commissioner in April 2016 by the Financial Services Commission. He leads the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR). He began his public service at OIR in 2008, serving in a number of roles including chief analyst of the property & casualty financial oversight unit and deputy commissioner of property & casualty insurance.

“As president-elect, I have every confidence that Commissioner Altmaier will be an advocate for Florida’s consumers. This national role will help ensure Florida is top of mind when decisions are made. I look forward to continue working with him in this position of leadership,” Jimmy Patronis, chief financial officer for the state of Florida, said in a statement.
