Argo Group presents $15K in grants to New York students
Formula E drivers were in attendance — and raced against students — at the event where Argo Group donated $15,000 to robotics and step teams.
To continue its dedication to advancing the future of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, Argo Group donated $15,000 to two robotics and one step team from Brooklyn, Long Island and Queens, respectively, ahead of the annual New York City E-Prix in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The investment brings Argo’s three-year student investment total to $35,000.
“Argo’s partnership with Formula E and our support of STEM education is a reflection of our commitment to innovation, teamwork and sustainability,” said Gary Grose, head of producer management and marketing at Argo Group.
The international specialty insurer held an event on Thursday, July 11th, at the RPM Speedway in Jersey City, where Argo-sponsored Dragon Racing professional Formula E drivers, José María López and Max Gunther, answered STEM questions, signed autographs and even raced with students.
At the event, students learned about the importance of STEM education, and how Formula E, which is the highest tiered electric racecar circuit in the world, works. Race winners were presented with trophies, and the robotics and step teams were presented with checks.
“We have supported New York-area high school robotics teams for the past several years in association with our Formula E sponsorship. STEM education is imperative as future generations enter the workforce. Mathematics has always been the foundation of insurance, but in recent years Argo has increased hiring of data scientists, software engineers, cybersecurity experts and other STEM fields. Hopefully some of these kids will join the industry when they’re ready to go to work,” Grose concluded.
