Going camping is a timeless retreat for many individuals. Whether it's your first time and you're looking to get away from the bustle of city life or it's a regular getaway you can date back to your childhood, camping is a popular getaway plan for a number of people. And just like any other vacation, there is a significant amount of planning required before the fun can happen. Making sure you have all the proper tools, equipment and personal effects is one thing, but preparing for all the possible risks that can arise while camping is just as significant. Prepare for these camping risks

Without proper preparation, a number of risks can turn your camping experience into something out of a nightmare. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists a number of things to consider: |

  • Prepare safe food and water;
  • Include safe physical activities;
  • Avoid wild animals, and protect family pets;
  • Fight the bug bite; and
  • Prevent temperature-related illness, among others.

Some of these risks will vary by region, but one that is a staple to camping is the campfire. It's essential for cooking, visibility and much more. But if you don't know set a campfire up properly or know how to deal with one that starts to spread, you put yourself, others and the surrounding area around you at risk.
