The rate of Americans opting to live alone has steadily increased for decades. This group now comprises more than 27% of the country's population, according to census data. But there's safety in numbers, so it's not surprising that those living solo are more likely to be burglarized than others. There are several safety precautions individuals can take when they live alone, like getting a dog or installing a home security system. But there is always a risk of home invasions, and some places are more prone to this type of crime than others. A new report from ASecureLife analyzed census data and three sets of FBI crime data —property crime rates, violent crime rates and local law enforcement presence — to determine the safest and most dangerous states to live alone.
