Tennis legend and activist Billie Jean King will be the finale keynote speaker at 3 p.m.,  Wednesday, May 1 at RIMS 2019 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Boston.

The four-day event, scheduled for April 28 – May 1, will feature more than 300 speakers, 400 exhibitors and approximately 10,000 attendees from over 70 countries.

Trail blazer

King, who won an astounding 39 Grand Slam titles during her career, blazed trails for women everywhere in 1970 when she became one of nine players to break away from the tennis establishment and accept a one-dollar contract to compete in the newly created Virginia Slims Series.

The revolt led to the birth of women’s pro tennis and the formation of the Women’s Tennis Association. She currently owns the Philadelphia Freedoms and heads up the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative.

“Billie Jean King is a true champion that has not only reached the pinnacle of her profession but, has also paved the way for others to follow in her footsteps,” said RIMS President Gloria Brosius. “We look forward to welcoming her to Boston and learning from her wins, her losses and her fight for equality.”
