GIS hosts a number of conferences throughout the year. Their biggest event, the 47th annual international conference, will be held October 4-6, 2018 in Chicago, which is expected to draw over 500 risk management, insurance, and actuarial science students and advisers from 55 colleges and universities throughout North America, plus 71 sponsors, 62 career fair exhibitors, and over 250 industry representatives.
Students in attendance are preparing for careers as risk managers, actuaries, underwriters, brokers, consultants, agents, and more across all areas of the insurance, risk management, and actuarial science sector.
Last year, more than 400 interviews for internships and entry-level positions were conducted on-site during the 2017 conference, with multiple offers reported from participating companies and organizations. This conference will provide this year’s student attendees opportunities to apply for summer 2019 internships and full-time positions.
“The conference is the premier event for the insurance industry to engage the next generation, and the most comprehensive event for students to develop professionally and expand on their industry exposure and knowledge,” Wesley Griffiths, Executive Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Gamma Iota Sigma and Actuary at Travelers.
“The agenda includes the largest career fair of its kind, educational sessions, Dive In diversity and inclusion sessions, and keynote addresses, in addition to leadership seminars and ample networking opportunities,” he adds.
Opportunity to recruit next-gen insurance pros
For sponsoring companies, the international conference offers organizations a great opportunity to recruit next-gen insurance professionals, and help mitigate the widespread talent gap facing the insurance industry.
In addition to the benefits company sponsorship provides to organizations who participate, each sponsorship also offsets more than 70% of the cost for each of the over 550 student attendees, and supports Gamma Iota Sigma’s year-round programming delivered to over 4,000 student members.
