May is known as Military Appreciation Month, and what better way to appreciate veterans than to help them find jobs in the civilian world? The insurance industry is a good one for former service members with its wide range of opportunities across the United States. Military Times, the publication most widely read by service members and their families, annually ranks employers as "Best for Vets," and the 2018 list includes 100 organizations across more than 30 industries. Military Times invited companies across the U.S. to take part in its extensive survey asking questions about recruiting people connected to the military; company policies related to veterans, reservists and their families; and the organization's culture. Only organizations that did well in the evaluation were included in the 2018 list of 100 best for vets. Natalie Gross, a writer for Military Times, explained that companies' responses relevant to culture and military recruitment efforts each made up about 34% of the total possible score. Policies for employees who are members of the Guard and Reserve accounted for about 20%, and policies for former service members comprised nearly 12% of the final score.
