Industry events provide unique learning opportunities for insurance professionals
Industry conferences continue to provide education and networking opportunities that cannot be replaced by technology.
I recently spent almost a week in San Antonio, Texas, attending RIMS to learn about the new risks facing insurers and their policyholders. As I walked the exhibit hall, met with representatives from multiple companies, attended the education sessions and networked at a wide variety of events, I appreciated the opportunity to learn from so many different sources.
Many forces are changing and shaping our industry. As business becomes more global, so do the risks. Speaking with peers who are at the forefront of some of those changes provides practical insights and a learning opportunity that only comes from attending an industry conference.

Identifying new threats
Autonomous cars present many exciting opportunities and will have a definite impact on insurance in the future. Coverage needs will change, as will policy costs and even how insurance is priced. The advent of smart cities provides a plethora of changes for municipalities as technology provides solutions to a range of issues and creates new challenges for them as well.
Cybersecurity will continue to be a priority for businesses because no one will be immune to this threat. Even individuals will need to practice the same level of caution they do in their companies because home technology is providing hackers with greater opportunities to access their personal information.
The use of ransomware will continue to increase because it has proven lucrative for hackers.
Education is vital to staying ahead of or knowledgeable about these changes. For those working in any aspect of claims, the America’s Claims Event in Austin, Texas, on June 25-27, will provide a unique opportunity for you to learn from your counterparts in the industry. From insurance technology and fraud, to subrogation, the lessons learned from last year’s disasters and so much more, the education sessions, networking opportunities and exhibition will provide will provide the data you need to prepare for the changes to come.
Strategic futurist, Nancy Giordano, will help prepare you for the critical shifts companies and the workforce must confront to stay relevant in the future. Chris Malone of Fidelum Partners will provide insights on how to build and sustain client and employee loyalty in the digital age.
